  Our research is mainly focused on the psychobiological substrates of depression/anxiety and autonomic/cardiovascular dysfunction comorbidity.

  Present research activities

Rodent studies are focused on:

  • Epigenetic and cellular mechanisms underlying the pathophysiology of cardiovascular dysfunction in rats of both sexes exposed to social stress paradigms.
  • Systemic and peripheral FAAH inhibition as a potential pharmacological strategy for stress-induced anxiety and depression-like disorders.

Human studies are centered on:

  1. Psychobiological evaluation of the efficacy of EMDR (eye movement desensitization and reprocessing) and mindfulness as stress resilience strategies;
  2. Evaluation of the relationship between gut microbiota and physiological/behavioral signs of chronic stress and/or anxiety/depression;
  3. Development of IoT (Internet of Things) systems for the psychophysiological monitoring of stress in car drivers;
  4. Evaluation of the relationship between individual behavioral profiles and stress levels in surgeons;
  5. Investigation on the role of psychosocial stress as etiopathogenetic mechanism in acute coronary syndromes.
